10 Things to do this Sunday with Lolo and Lola for Grandparents’ Day

Spending time with Lolo and Lola was some of the best memories growing up. Every meal is a feast, tubs of ice cream in the fridge, they were game for anything, and they’d let you watch as much TV as you want. Sometimes, they surprise you with how much they’re so updated with Facebook and news online. Sometimes, they give you a call on what is Netflix and why they don’t have it. While they are settling in on their seniority and possibly retirement, we shouldn’t forget to enjoy now with them. They’ve been through and done so much, and there’s still more to do. Start with Grandparents’ Day!

Grandparents’ Day is the perfect occasion to celebrate them and with them. Lucky for you, we found the time to put together a fun-filled day that will brighten up and exhaust your grandparents. From filling morning breakfast, creative and relaxing activities to some youthful partying, Grandparents’ Day will keep Lolo and Lola on their toes and loving being out in the city even more!

8:00 AM • Morning Breakfast at Simple Lang

One lesson we learned from our grandparents is that there is only one right way to start any day: a hefty and back-breaking Filipino breakfast. One Filipino restaurant that will definitely not disappoint Lolo and Lola is Simple Lang. 10:00 AM • Arts and Crafts c/o The Craft Central

Over coffee, gather your grandparents’ choice of arts and crafts from The Craft Central and get their creative juices going. Get everyone to join in as well. Make personalized greeting cards for Lolo and Lola and ask them to create artsy messages for each other. Pick some options for everyone – watercolour set or calligraphy set.

12:00 PM • Family lunch at Balducci Ristorante

The Tuscan countryside has a scenery that’s perfect for unwinding the family. Balducci Ristorante brought just that to Manila serving authentic Italian pasta, pizza and steak. While a Rib-eye alla Griglia con Verdure is appetizing for sure, we recommend you go light with some tomato-based pasta, Insalata mista di stagione con frutta fresca and Caprese of course.

1:00 PM • Meds filling at Mercury Drug

Now this is one thing we can’t deny: when we reach a certain age, getting maintenance medicine becomes even more frequent. Being thoughtful about your grandparents should also include their needs. Their medicine take quite a chunk out of their budget and it is such a big deal for you to treat part of what they need from time to time. On Grandparents’ Day, make it a point to pass by a Mercury Drug and get some of their medicine for them. Don’t wait for any other occasion to do that. Whenever you have the time and extra money, go online and get Lolo and Lola a Mercury Drug gift certificate to shoulder their meds expense again.

2:00 PM • Shopping for Finer Things at Cura V

What’s a day out without shopping. Instead of the usual bed sheets and clothing, why not get unique picks on jewelry and home décor. Grandparents are very picky about what they wear and what they put in their home, and Cura V has already done that for them. Get to the store early because they will take some time to figure out what they really want.

4:00 PM • Pampering at Transcend Spa & Nails

All that walking, eating and shopping will surely have made your grandparents tired by now. So by this time, you better be treating them to some pampering like an hour’s worth of foot reflexology, nail treatments or Swedish massage at Transcend Spa & Nails.

7:00 PM • Date night at L’Opera Ristorante

Dinner time! All that healing must’ve already made them hungry but the day isn’t over yet, so make sure they pack-in more carbs and protein for dinner with authentic Italian cuisine by L’Opera Ristorante. Go with a simple pasta dish like Cacio e Pepe and a seafood twist of Rotolini di Branzino con Zucchini but don’t forget to bring in some fish and grilled pork. Finish your dinner with a champagne to warm them up for the rest of the night.

8:00 PM • Party at Rocket Room

It may be hard to imagine but back in the day, your grandparents partied harder than you. It’s been a while for them but today, they deserve to party just as hard. Well, as hard as they can. After dinner, bring them to Rocket Room to enjoy some cocktails with a retro vibe. Get them some Rocket Fuel, Tiki Torch, Cali Mocho, Philipp’s Gold and Apples in the penthouse. They may raise an eyebrow at first but they will be the life of the party soon enough.

10:00 PM • Game and drinks at Prego Ristorante & Bar

The night isn’t over! Just one more thing before their night cap. A little game and a little more wine. To end Grandparents’ Day, bring them to City of Dreams Manila for some risky and not so risky gaming. And just before they all go home, a last glass of wine with a slice of pizza and some decaf. Make sure to give them only the authentic kind from Prego Ristorante & Bar.
